Prostate cancer is the most common form of cancer in American men. Nearly one in nine men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during his lifetime. But it can often be treated successfully if caught early. I encourage my patients to schedule their annual prostate screening.
When to Schedule an Appointment
In general, prostate cancer has no symptoms. But you should schedule an appointment with your physician if you are experiencing:
- Difficulty starting or stopping your urine flow
- Frequent urination, especially at night
- Inability to urinate
- Pain or burning during urination
- Urine flow that starts and stops
- Weak urine flow

Latest, Most Advanced Nonsurgical and Surgical Technologies
da Vinci robot system for surgical treatment of prostate cancer. Catholic Health offers minimally invasive robotic-assisted surgery using the da Vinci robot system. This device provides a high-definition 3D view of the surgical area and the surgeon uses small incisions across the abdomen to remove the prostate. This technique enhances surgical precision and reduces recovery time for the patient usually resulting in a one to two day stay in the hospital. In addition, there is significantly reduced pain compared to traditional open surgery.
Varian Edge for nonsurgical treatment of prostate cancer. Catholic Health offers radiosurgery using Varian Edge. Despite the name, this procedure doesn’t require an incision but rather delivers precise doses of radiation using the Varian Edge technology. This can be done with less treatment time and significantly reduces the risk of damage to nearby healthy tissue.
